The Columbus Museum of Art Think Outside The Brick: The Creative Art of LEGO Celebrate the 10th anniversary of Think Outside the Brick: The Creative Art of LEGO®. CMA’s annual holiday celebration of the creative potential of LEGO® bricks returns, featuring an enormous model of Columbus built collaboratively by the Ohio LEGO User’s Group (OhioLUG). Teen Open Studio with OAAE Guest Artist Jaden Taylor December 10, 2022 11:00 AM–2:00 PM Location: CMA Central Ohio teens are invited to join us for Teen Open Studio, a FREE, drop-in program for ages 12–19. Located in the Innovation Lab, teens can learn from local artists, experiment with technology and art supplies, or just hang out with their friends. Work alongside local Ohio Alliance for Arts Education (OAAE) artist Jaden Taylor for Studio engagement from 11:00 AM–2:00 PM. Teen Open Studio is held the second and third Saturday of each month from 11:00 AM–2:00 PM. December Theme: Hibernation Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but the CMA Studio is delightful. Since there is so much creativity, come to the Studio. The art makin’ shows no signs of stopping. The ideas are surely popping! So come to the Studio, come to the Studio, come to the Studio. Celebrate our December theme of Hibernation with us. Explore the cozy comforts of the season with our winter prompts. Visitors are welcome to burrow through our art supplies and create something from their imagination. Where The Wild Things Art: The Art of Maurice Sendak Wild Things Are Happening: The Art of Maurice Sendak will be the first major retrospective of Sendak since his death in 2012, and the largest and most complete exhibition of one of the most celebrated and original artists of our time. On view from October 21, 2022 through March 5, 2023, the exhibition is organized by the Columbus Museum of Art in conjunction with The Maurice Sendak Foundation. An international tour is planned following its presentation in Columbus. The exhibition is comprised of more than 150 sketches, storyboards, and paintings by Sendak drawn from the collection of The Maurice Sendak Foundation. Highlights include original work for Sendak’s most famous books: Where the Wild Things Are, In the Night Kitchen, and Outside Over There. Sendak was influenced by writers ranging from William Shakespeare to Herman Melville. Alongside landmark pictures for Sendak’s own books will be examples of artwork he created for such celebrated publications as The Bat-Poet by Randall Jarrell, A Hole is to Dig by Ruth Krauss, The Little Bear Series by Else Holmelund Minarik, and Zlateh the Goat by Isaac Bashevis Singer. Designs for many of Sendak’s opera, theater, film, and television productions are also featured in the exhibition. (Click on the title above for a link to the webpage)

Students in all art classes this semester took a trip on Friday to the Licking Valley Heritage Museum. Our presenter, Bill Weaver, educated students about our native people, Hopewell Indians, how import flint is in our area, school history, entertainers/Hillbilly Park, and transportation.
I wanted to let you all know about an opportunity to participate in an art contest to earn money.

This is a contest sponsored by our local and national Lion's club. • The contest is open to students who will be 11, 12 or 13 years of age on November 15, 2022. Eligible birth dates are November 16, 2008 through November 15, 2011. • Artwork must be no smaller than 13 inches by 20 inches (33 centimeters by 50 centimeters) and no larger than 20 inches by 24 inches (50 centimeters by 60 centimeters). Do not mat or frame artwork. • Only one entry per student per year, and each entry must be the work of only one student. • All artwork must be the individual student’s original creation. Duplications are not accepted. • All media are accepted. Note: Chalk, charcoal and pastel entries should be sealed with a fixative spray to prevent smearing. Do not laminate entries. •• Mrs. Burghy can help you with this. • Three-dimensional entries will not be accepted. Nothing may be glued, stapled or attached to the artwork in any way. • The use of lettering or numbering on the front of the poster, in any language, is not allowed. All artist signatures or initials should be written on the back of the poster. • Artwork should be done on a flexible material so it can be rolled for shipping in a mailing tube. Do not fold poster. |
